I was just lounging around and started looking at my old work from WAYS back... and I stumbled on to this little one = link, a character I drew from 2006. Suddenly, I had an idea. I wanted to re-draw her, with actual purpose this time. I also wanted to see how much i could improve with the digital painting stuff and this is what came out. i'm happy how her robe turned out...my real weakness is clothing, honestly. While I try to graduate from the real anime style, it still manages to seep into drawing like these a lot so i guess I shouldn't mind.
Wow, cool! I like the shading and the brushes you used on the wand.
If you want to change from your usual anime style into a more cartoony style, try to simplify your shapes. Your initial drawing of Hikari is actually more cartoony than this one. I say stick to your original design if you want less anime. Less is more!
Hahahah I know she's more anime-esque. But I'm not going into the whole cartoon-y style either.. haha that could be later... right now I'm trying to practice human anatomy and posing and stuff. I dunno...there's a fine line nowadays between anime and western animation cuz of the uncanny likeness but watevs! xD
Um...I'm talking about the usual anime and western animation styles. Technically, they're mediums, but you know what I'm talking about. By uncanny likeness, do you mean like Avatar? Haven't really seen any western animation meant to look like anime.
Haha it all depends. I'm not going for the typical anime style where boys are stereotypically skinny and tall. But yeah I kinda get it. Avatar style is a nice style to work with, especially since Legend of korra now is going for more realistic proportions. and I like that. xD
